Lymphatic Drainage 101:

What Your Body Contouring Trainer Forgot to Tell You

If you were taught that lymphatic drainage is just "light rubbing towards the heart," you only got 10% of the story.

  1. Your lymphatic vessels are one-way streets. If you perform wood therapy or manual strokes in the wrong direction, you're causing a backup and potential tissue inflammation. You must open the terminals (nodes) first, or the fluid has nowhere to go.
  2. High pressure = high failure. The initial lymphatics are just 0.1mm under the skin. Most specialists use too much pressure with wood tools, thinking harder is better. High pressure actually collapses these vessels, stopping drainage entirely.
  3. Fat doesn't just disappear. The lymphatic system is the only way out for large fat molecules (chylomicrons). When you use cavitation to burst fat cells, you're creating waste that is too large for the blood to pick up. If the lymph isn't optimized, that fat just sits in the tissue and eventually re-settles.
  4. The post-partum stagnation loop. Hormonal shifts from pregnancies can thicken the interstitial fluid. This thick fluid makes the skin look heavy and prevents RF heat from reaching the collagen properly. You have to thin the fluid (drainage) before you can tighten the skin (RF).
  5. The chemical assist. Topical astringents like Frankincense influence microcirculation. Using a custom oil isn't just for the slip - the right botanicals can help contract the tissue and support the "pump" of the lymphatics at a microscopic level.

If we do not drain, we won't get inch loss.

Without priming or prepping the body via lymphatics, your clients aren't going to be getting the full effects of your treatments.
